Let’s see the explanation under the topic Essential elements required for Plant Growth-
The Macronutrients are the ones whose requirement is more than compared to micronutrients that are with concentration >100 g/g dry matter, while Micronutrients are required with concentration <100 g/g dry matter.
The examples for macronutrients are- Carbon, nitrogen (Primary Nutrient), phosphorus (Primary nutrient), Potassium (Primary nutrient), calcium (Secondary Nutrient), Magnesium (Secondary nutrient), Sulphur (Secondary Nutrient).
The examples for Micronutrients are- Iron, Manganese, Boron, Molybdenum, Copper, Zinc, Chlorine, Nickel, Cobalt (Beneficial), Sodium (Beneficial), Silicon (Beneficial).
Let’s see some more brief information-
- Macro or Major nutrients are the nutrients utilized by the plants in relatively large amounts (quantity) for their growth and development.
e.g., C, H, O, N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S where C, H, O are abundantly present in the atmosphere and need not be applied through fertilizers.
- Micronutrients are required in relatively smaller quantities for their growth and development, but these are equally important and essential to plants as macronutrients. They are also called Trace / Rare / Nano-elements.
e.g., Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, Mo, Cl, Ni.
